About Us

We are the parents of pupils who attend the amazing Ae Primary School in Ae Village, just outside of Dumfries. This page was set up to promote the school, its activities and events and to show other parents and interested parties why our little rural school is so special.

Ae Primary is set in the beautiful Ae Valley, surrounded by stunning countryside on one side and Ae Forest on the other, and is less than 10 miles from Dumfries town centre.

The school offers an excellent level of primary education in a spacious, relaxed, inclusive and friendly environment and is able to provide a great level of individual support where required. It benefits from fantastic, enhanced outdoor education opportunities, including gardening, nature and survival activities, themed walks, sports and fire works displays. The older children also participate in mountain biking and orienteering. The school is enhanced with its own fruit and vegetable garden, flowering planters and poly tunnel and the children are taught how to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers. They are given cooking lessons to help prepare for community events and sell the plants and flowers they grow at annual plant sales. The children also enjoy school trips and visits as well as specialised workshops, each term.

Ae Primary offers fantastic communication in form of weekly newsletters with timetable updates, news, photos from current projects and events and special achievement announcements.

The school has its own kitchen and the pupils enjoy fresh cooked meals every day. The school also offers breakfast club, which makes work commute more achievable. And there is a fantastic, enthusiastic and outdoor orientated childminder situated in the village for after school care.

The children usually socialise and play after school as there is a large, quiet park right next to the school building.

The Principal Teacher is Marion Leyva. The school engages with its cluster partner school in Amisfield on a regular basis and the two schools share their Head Teacher, Karen Scriven.

We love our little school and so do our children. There is currently one composite class of 9 pupils. We desperately need to increase our numbers to ensure that the school stays open for more families to enjoy it, for years to come. If you are interested in learning more about Ae Primary or would like to come and view it for yourself, please contact the school directly on 01387 860229, drop and email to the school office at gw08officeae@ea.dumgal.sch.uk

Ae Village is close to the centre of Harestanes wind farm with an important rural heritage. With the investment in the area over recent years and the opportunities for future community development, the importance of available primary education for this rural community remains  a paramount concern.
